| TRI-Generation The simultaneous production of electricity - heating - cooling is the most efficient way to supply comfort in a building or group of buildings. The most frequent users of tri-generation systems are airports and hospitals. However, most often the installations are not regarded as tri-generation systems but independent installations, and as a result not optimised to work together in the most efficient way. When combining a steam turbine, a gas turbine or gas engine with absorption chillers - compression chillers - thermal storage the electrical demand from outside sources can be reduced to 1/3, compared to traditional installations. At the same time the environmental impact is reduced dramatically, for example CO2 emissions can be cut in half compared to existing traditional installations. In
the longer perspective Sterling Engines and Fuel Cells will be added to
the currently used technologies. For small installations micro turbines
in combination with heat driven cooling equipment is a very interesting
alternative. |
| The
Aim of the Cooling and Tri-Generation Cluster The cluster will in six workshops over a period of three years bring together manufacturers, researchers and industry professionals to discuss possibilities for improvements in existing technologies, research projects and in what areas the industry should focus its R&D resources to become most internationally competitive. The cluster will also discuss how the European Union can contribute to the development of a strong and competitive industry, by contributing with development funding and establishing a framework for the industry to operate within. |
